The summer of water ramping and trampolining has begun. The first days were this past weekend. Rain and shine everyone had a great time! Day sessions are still availible in July and August.

2013 USASA Ski and Snowboard National Championships

It is the spring of 2013 and another USASA National Championships has come and gone. Over the course of the winter thousands of athletes, in dozens of age groups, have competed in regionally sanctioned events, to try their hand at qualifying for and competing in the National Championships at Copper Mountain. More than 1600 athletes made the voyage to Copper this year to compete. The competitions took place over a two-week span of time. During the first week the snowboarders took to the slopes, and in the second week, the skier's had their turn. In total, 31 athletes from the Adirondack series competed in the disciplines of ski cross, slopestyle, rail jam, or half pipe, and most of the athletes competed in a combination of these events.

The weather over the majority of the two weeks of competitions was absolutely spectacular. However, there were a few occasions where Mother Nature showed us her wrath and challenged the athlete's levels of maturity, determination, and perseverance. In true Adirondacker fashion, the athletes who represented this wonderful series proved, on these challenging days, that when the going gets tough, the tough get going!

In total, the athletes representing the Adirondack series claimed 2 gold medals, 5 bronze medals and 13 other top 10 positions! This was the best showing from the Adirondack series to date. However, I am pleased to announce the most important part which is: every athlete from the Adirondack series returned home happy, healthy, ready for summer, and yet eager to compete again next year.

 On this happy note I will leave you with a quote from an NYSEF athlete taken on April 14, 2013: "can it be next season yet?"

NYSEF Freeriders Shine at NY/PA Championships

Seven NYSEF athletes made the long journey to Western New York's Holiday

Valley to compete in USSA Eastern Regional Championships. On the women's side, Brett

Deweese finished 5th in Ariels,4th in Slopestyle and 15th in Moguls earning her

a 3rd overall placement! Emma Oechsner in her first season competing

made huge improvements placing 12th in Ariels,10th in slopestyle and 21st

in Moguls! Young Gun Brooke Deweese in her first championship showed that

she will make some noise in the future with a 16th in Ariels,9th in Slopestyle

and 31st in Moguls! All three proved that NYSEF Freeride ladies ROCK!

On the men's side, Brian Gardiner finished 1st in Ariels,2nd in Slopestyle and

5th in Moguls earning him a 1st overall award! Jake Roney made steady improvement

this season and it showed with a 18th in Ariels,5th in Slopestyle and 12th in

Moguls. Smiling Jack Deweese made the journey and competed in Moguls

with a stellar 35th place and Young Gun Max Oechsner giggling all day

finished 46th in Moguls! Nysef men made thier presence felt in Western

NY and proved we are back! Now it's on to Waterville Valley for Eastern

Championships.

End of Season Happenings

It's hard to believe the end is near already but here are some upcoming events to look forward to while the lifts are still turning.

USASA Adirondack Series - Our regional competition season is over but if you are qualified for nationals you've got a few more weeks to prepare.  We will be coaching through March 23rd/24th weekend for those heading to Colorado.  Talk to your coaches about your plans and confirm you are going with me (mike@nysef.org) so we can get you on the coaching schedule at the event.  Justin Perry and Kevin Brousseau will be available for both snowboard and ski week.

End of the Season Potluck - Sunday March 17th - sign up at the front desk and let us know what you can bring.  This is for all of our NYSEF/Whiteface programs to share so we'll probably need plenty of food and beverages.  You can also contact beatty@nysef.org if you can't get to the mountain ahead of time.

The Apple Butter Open - Saturday March 23rd - I know all the Mogul skiers are looking forward to this classic competition.  Check with guest services in the main lodge for registration details.  Rumor has it Coach Lynn is planning a little cook-out too!

Pond Skimming & Retro Sunday - Sunday April 7th - You know the drill.  Break out your parents' 70's ski outfits and try to stay dry!  Registration is at guest services in the main lodge.

And after the snow is gone and the lifts are closed there's always summer Ramps & Tramps at the Olympic Jumping Complex and the Freeride Mt Hood Camp (6/26-7/9)!  Contact JP for details or to sign up @ justinp@nysef.org

Final USASA Railjam & Slopestyle Results

This past weekend the ADK series made it's return to Titus Mt after a multi-year break for our final railjam of the season held under the lights.  The Titus crew did a great job of setting up the venue in front of the main lodge providing spectators with an up close and personal view of the action.  Sunday brought everyone back to Whiteface Mt for the final Slopestyle comp and the awarding of the Hi-Chew High Flyer award for the month of February which was given to Northwood's Jason Castle (pictured).  He had a little trouble getting it to face right side up but had plenty of help picking up the Hi-Chew spill!  Congrats Jason!

USASA Results 

North Creek Skier/Boardercross

The 3rd Skier/Boardercross of the Adirondack season took place this past Monday February 18th at the North Creek Ski Bowl.  The staff did a great job of prepping the course and making all the competitors and their families feel welcome.  Although the cold created some problems with the lifts early on, everything got sorted out in time for the race.  This marks the final race at the Ski Bowl for this season and leaves us with one more cross on March 3rd at Whiteface Mt to wrap up our qualifying events.
Up next this Saturday is our final Railjam - a night event at Titus Mt - and our final slopestyle Sunday at Whiteface.

Empire State Games Recap

Well, another Empire State Games is in the books and the NYSEF athletes once again showed their true colors!  With so many of our athletes standing on the podiums in their respective age groups I wouldn't want to leave anyone out so please check the results links below to see them all.  Congratulations to all the winners!
